The DeWalt Thickness Planer gets Great Reviews!
The two speed DeWalt dw735 thickness planer has the power of performance- its calling to you!
The DeWalt dw735 is a portable thickness planer that is durably constructed from cast aluminum and quality plastic parts. It is great for a home shop and, if moving the 90 plus pounds of machine isn’t too heavy for you, it is a great tool for out on the job site.
It is about 13 inches wide and had a 19 inch feed table. Folding tables are available to extend the feed bed to about three feet. It can handle a 6 inch thick piece of wood.
The DeWalt dw735 has a depth lock on the front of the planer that allows you to dial in a precise depth. The Dewalt also has an indicator on the front to tell you how much wood will be removed when the wood piece is passed through. This is a great feature that eliminates the guess-work usually involved in the first pass.
This exceptional power tool has two speed rates of 96 cuts per inch and 179 cuts per inch that are effectively used for softwoods and hardwoods. The higher cuts per inch reduces the wear on the blades and also produces an finer finished surface. Although a smooth surface is achieved with the planer, some sanding is still recommended.
On thing to remember is to only change the rate of speeds while the motor is running. This is a bit counter-intuitive but it protects the drive as well as prevents start-stop time delays.
Snipe is always an issue for planers, but this machine seems to limit it. It has an automatic lock that sets in place when the wood is passed through. The cast aluminum construction also maximizes the stability and thus reduces the chance for snipe. Additional out-feed tables or rollers will help to minimize snipe by catching the weight as the end of the wood goes through the thickness planer.
As with many planers, the dw735 comes with dual sided blades. The motor is behind the cutter head and because the entire top lifts off, you can easily look into the space to change the blades. There is a lock that engages the cutter cylinder when the top is removed and this facilitates blade changes. Be sure to read the Dewalt dw735 manual for instructions from the manufacturer to change the blades. It is very easy to follow and will help you move through the process quickly and safely. The entire process only takes 10-15 minutes.
The DeWalt dw735 has significant sawdust blowout power for dust collection. In fact it is so strong that it is more powerful than some vacuum systems and will blow off the hose adapter if not securely attached. This the adapters attach via a twisting lock. The tool comes with a hose adapter and also a flat hood that disperses the dust and chips downward if a vacuum is not available. Another nice detail is that the blower not only addresses the sawdust issue at the blades but also keeps the motor free of residue.
DeWalt has some great deals so go take a look at thickness planers now!

Thanks for this – I really enjoyed the article and a good deal of the information here I can certainly make use of. Being an avid woodworker myself with a few years of experience under my belt you can never stop learning new things. My skill level is nowhere near what I would like it to be although it is true that practice does indeed make perfect! I have a small wood shop which I spend many hours crafting various home objects – my current project is a pine cabinet with single door, which is coming along nicely. I am using these new Wood Working Plans (link removed by Admin) which have helped me immensely in terms of getting things right first time. I am aware many woodworkers use these plans, since they are simple yet detailed in their instruction – has anyone here tried them? I would be interested to see how others had got on with them, and whether they find them as pleasurable to deal with as I have?
Thank you for your comment, we appreciate your feedback. Good luck on your current project!

Hello! I found your article by chance, I was digging around Bing for Hawaii Floor (Link Removed) when I found your blog.
In in 36 years of woodworking, I never make a saw cut without stopping to think about where I’m standing/sitting and where my hands/fingers are.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? – Thanks
I am not sure how or even if I can do this. You might try to unsubscribe and then resubscribe without the comments added. I will look into this and see if we can fix any errors.
